Everyone's situation is different, but the stake for life strategy is what I'm doing. I'm compounding my maturity and will then spawn neurons when the price of icp rises
Hi Kyle! The past days have decreased dramatically in stake rewards. Yesterday was the lowest ever since starting my stake in August... like a 70% drop. Any knowledge of what's happening? Thanks
Two new proposals went into effect the last two days: 1) you can no longer follow ICA or dfinity for governance topics and 2) governance topics are weighted more heavily. My guess is you have not been voting on the governance topics the last two days, costing you gov. rewards. You may want to update your neurons to follow ICPMN or cycle_dao for governance topics
I think you'll be surprised by the voting rewards you get for manually voting (or following ICPMN or cycle_dao)... most people aren't voting so far, so those who do vote get huge rewards right now
Have you considered the aging of your 8 year neuron? In 4 years it should add an additional 1.25x to your returns. I did some calculations myself and I was getting higher numbers even once the voting rewards are only 5%.
Yeah, that's not surprising. :) Mine too. Back to aging: one thing you might have an "advantage" on is that some of those large 8 year neurons are already 2-3 years old. Which means they will stop aging at the 4 year mark. So comperatively you will gain extra rewards, since they stop aging. Also we can't know if the number of aging 8 year neurons would go up or down. It only takes one huge 8 year neuron to start dissolving to move things around. It's interesting how unknowable future returns are. Also if governance participation goes up to 90% we'd all get lower returns. However that will still be some years I imagine. If the price of ICP sees a bull run and goes to the 80-120 range, we might see some dissolving and profit taking.
Currently marketing data science at a mobile game company. Modeling user LTV and things like that. However I quit not so long ago to do IC full time. March is my last month, also it looks like I might be joining DFINITY, fingers crossed. What kind of data science do you do?
Best of luck with your retirement plan 🙂.
My goal is to hit 1000k ICP locked this year and then just let it ride until 2041.
1M ICP this year?!? We should hang out more... :)
You suggest to hold for life? Stake at 8 years and not dissolve?

Someone should do a good legacy service ... :)

Yup, but also keep in mind that every other currently-existing, locked neuron is aging as well
I like your super data driven rational thinking. Have you studied economics or data science?
My background is in data science :)

Oh awesome! What kind of data science do you do?
Good points about gov. participation, aging, and possible profit taking
